Showcasing Geofencing for The Cork Area Commuter Rail Programme
We recently had the opportunity to showcase geofencing, alongside our partners, @JSPC Group in Cork. The Cork Area Commuter Rail Programme is the largest ever investment in the rail network in Cork. It will deliver additional capacity, including 8 new stations, electrification and additional track.
All of this presents challenges in possession management given the scale, complexity and timetable of the programme. This is why we are working with JSPC Group and @Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail to introduce geofencing, starting with a demonstration near Cork Kent Station.
We were able to demonstrate how geofencing can:
Reduce protection irregularities
Verify access point compliance
Prevent early on-tracking of RRVs and equipment
Enforce exclusion zones
Verify line clear for traffic
Transform the assurance and visualisation of possessions for PICOPs as they make safety-critical decisions
Thanks to @ Jonathan Lendrum, @ Dom O'Malley, @ Jon Sands, @ Altcon Engineering, @ David Flynn and so many of the stakeholders who took the time to interact with the technology and discuss its application in Ireland.
We look forward to continuing our work with Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail and JSPC Group, improving possession and track worker safety with geofencing in Ireland.
